The entry for "Limit Ntfs Memory Usage" is unclear to me. The popup says "Untick to Tweak the File System". Should this be ticked or unticked to limit the memory usage?

Ticked is the Windows Default option of limiting file operations, Unticked will tweak the system so it can handle more concurrent file operations (option 2 in the registry key as per artical below). This will work better if the Page File is disabled.

I will update the description in a future release.

    Hope this helps

Very good. From reading up on this, it appears that you need to have at least 2 GB of main memory for the tweak (which increases the file system cache) to do any good. Since I have 1 GB on that PC (with WinXP), I will leave it checked to limit the usage to the default value.

And I thought I had left it checked, but to be certain looked at the registry key:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\FileSystem]
and found that the NtfsMemoryUsage was set to 2 (increased), which should not be the case, so I set it back to 1 (normal). But if you find that SSDs for some reason benefit from the increased cache (maybe the need to erase multiple blocks requires more concurrent file accesses?), let us know. I can always add more DRAM and apply the tweak.

Great work Ashley! I want to say thanks in advance, as I'm no doubt going to be using this tool when I finally plunge into the realms of SSD's .

Great utility, would you consider adding an APPLY button so that the changes are not automatically applied on program exit.

    thanks

I agree there should be an "Apply" button. I am never sure what state I am leaving the system in.

great didnt knew, I will try it, Thanks elpamyelhsa!!
maybe a suggestion is the inclusion of steadystae/ramdrive into your tweak utility? or an internal benchmark that automatically set the best tweaks to apply for different ind and setup os ssd?

Hey, i would like to advise you to add one more option that is harming the SSD to disable. It's the Bootoptimizefunction/Boot Defragment, found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOpt imizeFunction.

It tries to defragment and put the boot files together, but since this is an SSD we don't need this option.

Hi, I saw you created a sorceforge page... someone is helping you to further develop the application in opensource?

    Hi Everyone,

Sorry for no update in a while, have done some more tweaking on desktops and laptops, now has tweaking for Intel TurboMemory and SSD drives with internal cache. Have had positive performance increase on all machines (Including RAID0) using "Auto Tweak" as long as you have at least 2GB of RAM. you can download the new version if you have it already by pressing the update button or using the link below.

For anyone with a new series laptop checkout Intel Turbo Memory as it will increase performance and is very cheap from eBay.

Boot Defragment (BootOptimizeFunction) is not an option in this software as it would be less useful for SSD Drives.

Sourceforge page is not ready yet, but I am happy to make the project source code available for anyone requesting it. Just Email.

    Enjoy

Thanks elpamyelhsa will test it, especially now that you have it optimised for cached SSDs like my Vertex

Anyone able to use this with Windows 7? I get "Unexpected Error" with it.
