Thread: Elixir software & Windows 7

    Elixir software & Windows 7

    Hi,

    I've been testing windows 7 rc1 64bit.

I have installed the Elixir software for the macro keys. I understand that the software is only windows XP.

Is there any work on a vista or windows 7 version?

    My testing report is:
The software allows you to program a macro and save it.
The blue macro keys don't seem to execute what you programmed.
The blue keys seem to execute whatever default action they have.
The keyboard mode doesn't change the profile in the software.

    Thanks.

As far as I know the software does work in Vista. Windows 7 support will come once Microsoft releases the final version of the OS.

You can try "Windows XP mode and Windows Vitual PC"
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir...c/default.aspx
Just make sure your CPU is compatible with it.

I can also confirm that it isn't working on Windows 7 RTM either. I know it worked with Windows Vista 64-bit.

Retail release is October 22, so it may be a bit longer until we see new software

I had the same problem here. Then I started trying some things and I got a workaround. Now it's working in my Windows 7 x64.

For Windows 7 32-bit users, just replace the folder Driver64 for Driver on step 2 (if needed, I think you can just skip step 2 if your Windows is 32 bits.).

All that is needed is to enable XP compatibility in Elixir Alchemy executables. To do so:

FIRST OF ALL: Go to Task Manager (Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, click Start Task Manager) and in the Processes tab, finish the processes Control.exe, option.exe and traicon.exe.

    1) Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Alchemy Elixir (or the folder where you installed OCZ Alchemy Elixir drivers and program);
    2) Go to the Driver64 folder. Double-click DPInst.exe and install the 64-bit driver. This may take a while.
    3) Go back to the previous folder (the one in step 1), right-click Control.exe and select Properties. Go to Compatibility tab, enable "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Click OK.
    4) Repeat the steps described in #3 for option.exe and traicon.exe.
    5) Double-click each of the executables above to start them or restart Windows.

It's done. Your macro keys are working nicely now. However, I do really hope that OCZ develops a brand new and more functional version of Elixir Alchemy controls that works perfectly with Win7.

    Cheers!

I'm on Win7Pro x64 RTM as well. The compatibility / 64-bit driver did enable the hotkeys, but it also introduced a new problem that makes the keyboard unusable for me. When typing at any decent speed, I get random u's and w's that appear in all my words. It would mauwke my tewxt look like thius half the tiwmeu. Once I uninstalled the drivers / software, the problem went away.

Here's hoping for some new drivers come the end of October!

Any word on when Elixir software for Windows 7 will be available? I am using Windows 7 x64 RTM and am looking forward to officially supported software.

What software do you want for Win 7.. the program supplied should run in Win 7 fine.
