    Default OCZ Animal Kits - taming the beast

    You might have heard about our latest gem for overclockers, the OCZ Animal series. They look like ordinary Platinum kits but come with the finest ICs around to provide exceptional overclocking results. So how do you know which kit is an animal?

    Look at the product number:

    OCZ3P1333LVA6GK = A for Animal
    OCZ3P13334GK = Normal Platinum kit

    If you're hunting for a new DDR3 kit, make sure it's got that A in the product number.

    In this thread, I'll test how OCZ3P1333LVA6GK performs on an i7 platform.

    OS: Windows Vista x64 SP1

    Default DDR3-1870, 8-8-8-27, 1.64V RAM, 1.32V QPI

    Test system:

    Intel Core i7-965 EE
    DFI LANparty UT X58-T3eH8 (BIOS 05/08)
    OCZ Vertex 60GB (FW 1370)
    Geforce 7600GT
    PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W
    Windows 7 x64 Build 7100

    Please note: This is the best result within the recommended safe voltages (1.65V RAM, 1.35V QPI). You will see higher results with more voltage, but you might void warranties by doing so.

    Achieving 1870MHz was pretty easy. Besides the usual RAM and QPI voltage bumps, I had to set DRAM PWM Switch Frequency to Increase 15% and LinX was good to go.

    Pretty sweet for a 1333 kit

    I'm curious as to whether or not they can play ball at 1600 7-7-7-24 1T?

    Hi Walter,

    I was just talking to Sales. You should be able to order the 1600MHz Animal kit at Syspack. If you want the 1333MHz one, please drop me an email and I'll put you in touch with our sales guy for Italy.
