    Default Crystaldiskinfo has some secrets to tell

    http://crystalmark.info/?lang=en

    Before you read on you need to be running FW1.3 for this to work AND that means EX users also. Im testing EX update files right now so sit back and wait a short while

    Go grab Crystaldiskinfo.exe

    Open it...it reads SMART data, what you don't know is it reads some of the Vertex SMART just fine but some of the strings are reporting wrong.

    Example: D1 says Offline seek performance....which is wrong let me explain.

    So...Guess what D0 is ????

    D0 = Erase count Average

    D1 = Remaining drive life in % by Erase count

    These are the ones that read and have the right string:

    01
    09
    0C

    The rest do not read right so take no notice.

    So all you should be bothered about are:

    01 Read error rate
    09 Power on Hours
    0C Device power cycle count
    D0 Erase count average
    D1 Remaining drive life in % by Erase count

    Nice. A first step in the right direction. Hopefully we'll get the meaning of the remaining
    values bit by bit.

    If the application read the values ok I would release more, fact is it does not.

    You now have the most important values IMO....you can now see drive life at least

    Omg, it detects that Vertex supports TRIM!! I can't believe it . Looks like we'll get OS & Drive supporting TRIM together very soon .

    What does a value of 6 for D0 really mean, mine is 82 ? Perhaps you could explain in short tems, what "Erase count average" is.

    Thanks,

    exactly what it is....my drive has hardly done anything here so its erase count average is low, yours is busy working so its a little higher

    I would not totally trust that line for now....Vertex does not support true ATA TRIM as yet...only by brute force so it may be picking up details and reporting wrong

    Tony, can you clarify...does this apply to Vertex only or will it work on other OCZ drives (I'm thinking jmicron controlled drives are a no go)?

    Apex is a no go...just reports the temperature, not sure on Core or Solid

    Hi Tony,

    Does it mean that if I have new a newly install OS (Image Restore), the DO value should be low. Is it correct? I currently have 133 for the DO value. By the way, the software also misreports the buffer size for the 120G SSD. It shows 32Meg instead of 64Meg.

    here is my result:
    DO=133
    DI=100

    Thanks.
    Ed.
