2x2Gb OCZ Reaper HPC PC8500 Timings on ASUS Commando
Hi,
So I have tried to get this set of 2x2Gb Reapers (OZC2RPR10664GK) running at max speed on my Asus Commando.
Best speed I can get is 988Mhz 5-5-5-18 2T 1.8-2.1V @ 5:4 ratio with my Q9650 @ 395 FSB on manual settings.
Looking on other Forums people are getting this Ram to 1100Mhz+.
I am aware that the OCZ thread about the TRFC setting need to be set to 54. This is a common problem with the P965 chipset (Commando).
I know I can flash the Ram but am reluctant to due to warranty.
I emailed Lyn at ASUS Support to ask if they can include a BIOS update to the manual TRFC setting (54) so anyone with the Commando can have access to these speeds on 2x2Gb Ram. The current max of this setting is 42.
Lyn there sent me this reply:

Is it possible for a Bios tweak to change this setting on the P965?
Can anyone at OCZ please post here and explain in more detail to Lyn or perhaps request a Bios tweak to Asus?
Thanks if anyone can help or offer any advice.

Asus have to change the bios code and yes it is totally possible for them to do it. They just have to want to do it.
OCZ cannot change it nor can anyone else but Asus.
P35 with 2GB ram modules runs into this problem on multiple boards.
Can you set Trfc to Auto with the rest of the timings set manually or is it "all or nothing" on Auto?

I cannot get them to run at 1066Mhz on SPD.
I will have to flash the Ram modules but am reluctant to do it at this time.
Ryder can you start a petition or poll for OCZ forum members to request Asus fix there BIOS for P965 and P55 to allow manual TRFC settings of 54 and above?
ASUS please listen to your customers!
