    Elpida Hyper Memory

Can anyone officially comment on the failure rates on the Elpida Hyper based memory modules?

Is OCZ going to take the route of another memory manufacturer and stop selling the Hyper based memory? I am mainly concerned because I don't want to RMA my memory every week or two because the chips fail.

I have the CL8 2133 blade memory and it ran fine @ 200 Bclk 2000 for a day or two. After that I was experiencing random BSOD's.

I have posted a screen shot and the actual measured voltages with my fluke meter. I have since backed the memory down to 1600 6-6-6-18 1.54 DIMM 1.2 VTT and I am not having any troubles.

    DMM voltages
    1.61 DIMM
    1.30 VTT
    1.25 Vcore

    This is OCZ's official statement.

In regards to the potential issues relating to Elpida Hyper IC’s, OCZ has not yet seen extended failures in the field, and the Elipda Hyper IC’s we have used came from earlier batches so we do not yet know if this is the reason why we are not seeing field issues but as a proactive measure based on the latest information from media reviewers like AnandTech we have officially held the use of any Elpida Hyper IC’s at this time. Any customers that are seeing issues are encouraged to contact us and we will absolutely take care of all customers with a no questions asked refund or exchange for another OCZ product of equal value, whichever the customer prefers. We want to make sure that our customers have peace of mind and the confidence that we will take care of any and all issues related to modules that utilize Elpida Hyper chips.

Great response! I have always been happy with your products and support!

Any ideas when you will have a replacement part that is of the same caliber as the 2133 blades?

Listing of possibly affected memory modules?

Is there a list that shows which IC a particular memory brand contains?
For example, what IC is the OCZ Reaper 1600 based on?

The reason I am asking is because 2 weeks ago I got a new 2x2GB Reaper 1600 kit from Newegg and I had to RMA the whole kit because one of the 2GB modules was faulty.

So now it's got me worried about having to RMA over and over again.

    Regards
    Christopher Barran

    Hello Christopher,

We have not used the IC's in 3 months, no the Reaper are not effected.

Blade 2000 and higher modules are the only kits.

2000 CL9 blades have either Samsung or Micron IC's and are not problematic.

Ryder do you know when you will have a product that will meet the 2133 specs?

@Kpalbo, no they should not be effected, although there could be a few kits if there were fails from C7 testing.

@BeiFei, I have no idea at this time, it will all depend on the availability of an IC that can run the specs.

What they neglect to mention is that the refunds they offer their price and not what you paid. In my case the refund I was offered was just under 42% of what I paid and it is only 6 months after I bought the product.

The exchange option isn't much better. I was offered a significantly lower quality memory kit and was told OCZ does not have or make Blade modules anymore. To make up the difference they offered me a USB drive. I don't need or want a USB drive and it obviously isn't right to have someone pay for the top model and then offer them an average one.

I refused to accept either of these poor choices and this experience has taught me that buying from OCZ was a bad decision.
