How do I know if Windows 7 has recognised my SSD correctly?

OK , installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit yesterday, onto my Vertex 32GB SSD. I deleted the previous (XP Pro) partition and let Win 7 create the partitions it wanted (a small system partition 100MB, and the main system partition).
The install and updates went OK.
I've read that Win7 recognises SSDs and turns off defrag, prefetch and superfetch. In my install that hasn't happened.
How do I know that the Trim command will be used if I'm not sure the SSD has been correctly detected?
Is there a way, also, of checking the correct alignment from within Windows?

Ah, that was where I would have expected Windows to pick it up.

As far as checking TRIM is concerned there is a command you can type from a command prompt. I'll edit this post with it.
EDIT : Go to the Command prompt and type > fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify
This will state if Windows 7 is generating TRIM commands. There's no quick/easy way to know if they are reaching the drives or being blocked. If you are on RAID then they're being blocked.

There is a way of checking alignment too, from a command prompt, I'll edit this post with it.

The Windows 7 developers state that a drive detected as SSD with suitable random speed will have defrag etc turned off. That's as much as I know of the internal Windows operations. You can still manually turn them off, but I would rather find out exactly why Windows failed for your drive. My suspicion is that you have the drives in RAID. If that's the case then TRIM cannot function, and it's likely that Windows will not detect your array as SSD.

Three systems loaded to SSD's, 2 SSD's per system, 1 x W7 Pro and 2 x W7 Home Premium to date, all 64 Bit. No load has been recognised as being completed on an SSD, so I have had to switch them off "mandraulically". All systems are in Enhanced IDE Mode. Only takes a minute or 2 to get it sorted, so not really a problem.

Although windows 7 recognises SSD's and turns off defrag/superfetch etc automatically, it doesnt mean it disables the services, all it means is that those actions are disabled on that particular drive.

So the services will still be enabled, but auto defrag is disabled for the drive along with a few others things.

You can check it out by going to My Computer, then right click on the SSD, probably your C: drive and select properties, then click on the Tools tab and then click on Defragment now, then click on Configure Schedule and then click on Select disks at the bottom, if the OS has correctly identified your drive as an SSD drive, then your SSD drive will be missing from the list of harddrives that the OS automatically defragments, if you go back a few steps, your drive is still listed for you to manually defrag if you wish to do such a thing, but auto defrag will in all intents purposes be disabled for that drive.

Saying that, some ssd's will not be picked up by windows 7 properly and those actions will be enabled.

Thanks for that- I have the same as you- drive C is not listed for defragmentation, so it seems the SSD has been recognised correctly .

What you see is a listing of starting offsets for 1-5. Drives 1, 4 and 5 do not appear to be properly aligned while 2 and 3 do.

Ah OK that does it:

DisableDeleteNotify = 0

is that as it should be?

That means that deletenotify (TRIM) is not disabled. In other words Windows 7 is sending TRIM commands.

As I said above though if you have RAID then TRIM simply will not work. Based on your system details you may have RAID.
